Co Occuring Disorders

Clients with Co-Occurring Disorders (COD) have one or more disorders relating to the use of alcohol and/or other substances as well as one or more mental disorders. A diagnosis of Co-Occurring Disorders takes place when at least one disorder of each type can be established independent of the other and is not simply a cluster of symptoms resulting from a single disorder.

Approximately  8.9 million adults have co-occurring disorders; meaning that they have both a mental and substance use disorder.

Only 7.4 percent  of these individuals receive treatment for both conditions

55.8 percent receive no treatment at all.
