Alcohol abuse is characterized by having unhealthy or dangerous drinking habits. Symptoms may include:

  • planning your activities around drinking

  • needing to drink more to get the same effect

  • cravings for alcohol

  • cannot control how much you drink

  • having trouble stopping after you start

  • taking longer to recover from drinking

  • continuing to drink even though it is harming your relationships

  • physical withdrawal (sickness, anxiety, sweating, shakiness)
